My Joy

As it seems to happen to most moms, the initial purchase of your first ‘nice camera’ is to photograph your kids.

…Then a friend asks you to take pictures of her kids. Next thing you know a couple needs engagement photos. All of the sudden, a birthday party is happening and “would you mind just snapping a few photos?” You start getting requests like: “We’d love it if you would take our Christmas picture.” “The weather has been so nice lately, can you take our family photos?” and “Can you do a last minute wedding?”

Not to say I fell into this.

I totally welcomed (if not longed) for these jobs. I pursued this profession with persistence, sacrifice, and passion.

As I continue on this journey, I’ve had wonderful experiences of seeing babies being born, beautiful couples devoting their lives to each other, exponential love abounding from families during their photo sessions.

Of course, I am grateful for every photo experience. If you follow and read my blog entries, you know it’s not just a photo job for me. I love investing in every face I capture with the lens. If I can get to know the person for more than just “a client”, I feel like I’ve captured their spirit along with their face in the photo.

No longer are there last minute gigs. Nursing a newborn and raising a two year old don’t attend to that kind of ‘last minute’ photography. It was amazing enough when I was pregnant, raising a two year old, and shooting weddings on the same day that I would also do hair. I look back and sometimes wonder how I managed it all in the first place. (answer – my phenomenal husband)

I say all this because I am burnt out.

Plain and simple. I just need a break and it’s not anyone’s fault but my own. I just finally hit a wall.

Fortunately, I’ve got that break coming up. This is the time of year that is molasses slow for a photographer. Everyone’s holiday and fall photos are taken, it’s miserable outside and we’re just all hibernating and thinking warm springtime thoughts for those wonderful weddings and beautiful families to be photographed after winter.

So this all started because I wanted to give reason to why I haven’t posted in 15 days, or why this particular post is filled with fall photos of Roman.   The first part of the answer is because I was burnt out, the second is…Well… it’s because I love taking pictures.

Sometimes I get so busy, so overwhelmed, so stressed out that I forget that fact…and I forget what drove me to ‘buy a better camera’ in the first place.

My beautiful boy.

Love you Roman.

This was one of the best days ever. It was one of those unseasonably warm November days where I just had to take this little guy out and do a photo-playdate. He hadn’t been getting enough one-on-one Mommy time and this day ended up being perfect for me, Roman, and my camera.

There is this A-W-E-S-O-M-E field near my house. In a few short months the field will be gone and new houses will be built there. I drive by it nearly every day just WISHING I could take a lovely family out there for a photo opportunity. So that was our destination in our ‘photo walk’. After a few “rock tosses” over, we even snuck through the barbed wire just to get a few more great shots.

I had so much fun knowing that for this moment I was capturing innocence I will never get back. I was freezing in time his tiny little hands and that beautiful smile. I was getting refreshed. So, lovely readers, on one hand I apologize because the next couple of posts are going to be all about me, my little world and my family.

But on the other hand, I wouldn’t be able to give you awesome images of weddings, births, family photos and so much more without them, would I? 🙂
Thanks for listening to my heart. I wouldn’t be here without faithful readers. Can’t wait to hear what you think by reading your Faceookemail , and blog comments below.

Amazing photos of your little boy! I also enjoyed the post, your emotional attachment is obviously what makes you a great photographer.
