Every year, I wait until the last minute. I want to make something special for my kid’s birthday parties but time slips away. Somehow, still, I manage to pull off something that I think we are both happy with.
Enter, Elmo and Cookie Monster Cupcakes.
SUUUUPER easy! Eyes were marshmallows cut in half with a dot of black icing for the pupils….
And the mouth is a sawed-in-half-Oreo with the filling removed.
The final touches that make the difference between Cookie and Elmo (besides the blue and red icing) are Elmo’s peanut M&M nose and the extra effort to make Cookie’s stare a little googly-eyed.
Let’s face it, you’ve only got a few years before your kids tell you ‘that’s for babies’ or ‘I’m too old for that!’ I turned around, blinked, and Roman is four. I can totally see these words just forming on his tongue. So, before I let go of Milo’s baby stage, I figure we could celebrate a toddler classic, Elmo and Cookie, for his birthday.
While this was just a small part of his party, I think the cupcakes were a hit! Milo loved them and was very excited. Until it was time to sing Happy Birthday and then he became grumpy pants. (anyone else’s kids do this?!)
But once the attention was over and the focus was back on snacking, Milo was happy to pick out an Elmo all his own….
Happy Camper!
I cannot believe he’s two. My sweet, sweet boy who loves trains, small board books, following around his big brother, his blankie, his monkey and dog-dog, Curious George, and rhyming words as a way to tell a joke.
Life has never been so much fun. We are so blessed to have two years with this special little man.
Happy 2nd Birthday, Milo.
Your birthday party was just a small celebration compared to the joy of having you in our lives every single day.
Those cupcakes are just so cute!! And so is the birthday boy 🙂
