The Day Lukas was Born

Photobucket

This is Anne. She’s one of the cutest people I’ve ever met.

This isn’t her first day at the hospital, nor will it be her last. Anne has been in and out of this exact room several times waiting for Lukas’ arrival. With a complicated conception and a complicated pregnancy, Rob and Anne have had it tough these last months.

But you wouldn’t know it. Look at her face when she found out that I was allowed to be in the OR during the c-section. Oh Joy!

Big sister Riley helped daddy into his bunny suit.

And Anne just had to crack up at how silly he looked in his head-to-toe surgical attire.

This wasn’t Anne’s first c-section. At least not to her body. But her conscious mind was somewhere else the first time around. Anne had a complication with her first pregnancy too. She had seizures during the time Riley was born and was put under during an emergency c-section.

So, while this was technically her 2nd time having a c-section, to her it felt like the first…. and she was nervous.

….Nervous for so many reasons.

At 37 weeks pregnant, doctors planned to deliver Lukas.
That day, they went into the OR thinking they were delivering a 4 1/2 lb baby based on ultrasounds and a diagnosis of  Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR).

Meeting your brother for the first time can literally be an awesome experience.

Lukas spent one week in the hospital and was on Cpap, IV antibiotics, and a heart monitor. He went home and they had a ‘normal’ life for one week. But since then, Lukas has had some breathing issues and other complications and back to the hospital he went.

Keep this sweet and perfect little man in your prayers tonight.

His fight isn’t over and yet he remains strong. Some days have been good and some days have been hard.

You know what astounds me, though? Anne and Rob’s spirit. Yes, these times are hard. Yes, they are uncertain. But did you see those smiles I captured? They were genuine. And they KNEW once Lukas was born that things could be rough.

Through this time, I’ve continued to watch Anne and Rob tread through this difficult period with positivity and grace. They are survivors. Just like Lukas.

It is my prayer that this family can look back on this time as a short period of testing of their faith, their patience, and stamina. And throughout this trial they will become stronger.  May we all be blessed with incredible strength, grace, and positivity during our difficult times. Thank you, God, for little ones you bestow upon us. You make us realize how helpless we are and our great need for You. Thank you for Your sovereignty.
